Review of The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988) by Caleb M — 21 Jul 2009
The Serpent and the Rainbow is a delightful mix of classic adventure and Wes Craven style horror, it even has some romance. It is full of fascinating and frightening dream sequences that make us question whether or not what we are watching is actually happening.
Bill Pullman (a personal favorite of mine) plays his smart, young Harvard graduate, anthropologist to a tee, bringing up memories of old 1950's adventure movie heroes, but more sensitive and realistic.
Cathy Tyson is beautiful and smart as the young doctor he becomes involved with. This film seems to have a bit of everything, from voodoo, spirituality, adventure, high drama and even a bit of camp.
