Review of The Sentinel (1977) by Senor C — 08 Jul 2010
The Sentinel is a joy just for the casting alone. In smaller parts it has Burgess Meredith, John Carradine, Jeff Goldblum, Eli Wallach, Christopher Walken & a bevy of familiar faces of people who's names I can't remember; plus it has Beverly D'Angelo in a quite startling masterbation scene.
It's actually that scene that peaked my interest in this movie because before it was basically Cristina Raines separating from her boyfriend & looking for apartments until she finds one in Brooklyn Heights.
When she moves in she meets the neighbors & one of them are D'Angelo & Sylvia Miles as lovers & D'Angelo started masterbating in front of Raines. I was like 'what the fuck?!' This movie has some strange twist because the there are no actual neighbors (except for a blind priest living on the top floor) & what Raines has been seeing are former murderers.
She just happens to be living on a gateway to hell. The Sentinel is directed by Michael Winner who did some great movies w/ Charles Bronson most notably Death Wish 1-3....Another winner from Winner.
