Review of The Selfish Giant (2013) by Gretchen W — 14 Nov 2014
If you like bleak social realism, and are not terribly concerned about characters being uplifting or demonstrating too many redeeming qualities, then this may be the film for you. I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but I think any connection with the original Oscar Wilde story is so tenuous that they might as well not even have made the comparison. Even if they'd said they were "inspired by" it, that would seem more accurate to me than saying the film was an adaptation.
The two child actors are very talented, but for me that wasn't necessarily enough for the film to be an enjoyable experience. That's as fair as I can be about it!
