I am a Susan Cooper fan and used to want to make this movie myself. I am not sure I would have made it exactly like this one but I am happy to see these stories come to life. They are better books and are really aimed at a pre teen age 8-12, The main character is 14 and there is a scare element.
Mimi my 6 year old watched with us and loved it but I think Lucy my 4 year old would have been too scared. Hopefully they will continue the series as it is impossible to explain all the level of details in one movie.
As a book it flirts with positive paganism versus negative evil and is a very enjoyable descriptive read. It's simpler than Harry Potter - which I also love.
