Review of The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007) by Stephanie K — 30 Nov 2008
AAARRRGGHHH!!! I tried REALLY hard not to compare the movie to the book. I did it with Harry Potter movies; I did it with Narnia movies; I did it with the Lemony Snicket movie. I found all of these films enjoyable, despite their "artistic interpretation" of their original storylines.
'The Seeker' will NOT be joining that list. I was grinding my teeth during the whole movie: I could not believe how badly they butchered it! It's one thing if you make the main character American instead of British; 14 instead of 11.
It's another thing completely when the whole attitude of the story is changed for whatever conceivable reason you concocted. I was done with it the minute it started, but I wanted to give it a chance.
About half-way through, I was done with it. Unfortunately, I had to finish it since my brother wanted to see what would happen. That is an hour and a half of my life I want back.
