Review of The Secret of My Success (1987) by Mark D — 22 Jun 2012
Although a little dated now and from the 1987 era this is still an all time 80's classic, light hearted, fun, great music, city vista camera work and no CGI. The 80's saw the 'yuppie' years and all the business workers of Wall Street and big businesses with their suits, cars, chunky mobile phones, secretaries, cardigans around the neck and greed.
Trying to get that lifestyle and status that tops it all almost like "The American Dream". Casting Fox in this was perfect as he has the energy, characteristics and youth of a hungry, just out of college guy.
Helen Slater, hmm, debatable though even with the lisp. Some amusing scenes, over the top and unrealistic in places and a story that is a little coincidental in parts, but this is why, in my opinion movies of that era were good as they were made to entertain, fluffy stories, not to serious either.
Just good fast paced fun and a great favourite of mine.
