Review of The Secret of Moonacre (2009) by Kathleen P — 26 Jul 2009
A charming old fashioned fairytale fantasy with beautiful pictures and full of symbolism that might even please modern Witches and Wiccans. Though you can see that it is a British/Hungarian/French Co-Production and not a big "Hollywood Effect Bomb", it is exactly that fact that makes it quite charming and offers an enjoyable relief. The acting was decent, even if Ioan Gruffud acted partly like a drama queen. Dakota Blue Richards was a perfect match for the self conscious little moonprincess, discovering her heritage. Tim Curry was.....well.....just Tim Curry as we love or hate him. My personal highlight was Juliet Stevenson as Miss Heliotrope. Enjoyed her comic act a lot.
So: don't expect a big and multiprofessional Fantasy Blockbuster, but a sympathetic and funny little fairytale that pleases different then Hollywood does. And once again: some pictures where just magical and stunning.
