Review of The Secret of Moonacre (2009) by Oxana . — 23 Mar 2010
I didn't dare to expect much of this movie, and perhaps that was good.
A decent fantasy movie, with the standard plot and standard characters, although I think the characters were a bit better than in most movies I've seen - or they had potential, but as the plot failed a bit, so did they. They were introduced rather well, though.
The plot had a lot of potential, but was jumpy and strange part of the time. Too little was explained, too much left in the shadows, and then the events plunged forward again, introducing new elements when the old ones still needed explaining.
The movie looked pretty, but not amazing. Some of the acting was a little stiff, and all in all it lacked something original.
Also, the growth of Maria Merryweather into a Moon Princess was very quick. She took her part in it all rather well.
Tim Curry was a bit disappointing, knowing how good he can be, and Ioan Gruffudd was very quirky and eccentric as Sir Benjamin Merryweather.
