Review of The Secret of Kells (2009) by Doug W — 19 Dec 2010
As far as animated films go 'The Secret of Kells' is one of the better non-Disney films I can recall. Beautiful artwork, unique character designs, and occasionally beautiful music add up to a very solid outing that was worthy of its Academy Award nomination last year.
Not without its faults, the film has some childishly written lines and I wasn't particularly engaged.
If you have a particular affinity to animation, then this is a must-see. If you are like me and you appreciate wonderful animated films, but prefer live action, then flip a coin when you're deciding to rent this one or not. And if you fall into the third category of those that don't watch "cartoons" unless you're watching them with children, then definitely pass.
