Review of The Secret Life of Words (2005) by Christopher P — 27 Dec 2009
Perfecte. This prescient film posted into our lives by Isabel Coixet and producer Pedro Almodovar has a lot of interesting choices. The casting of Julie Christie speaks profoundly...considering her earlier acclaimed work.
The Shots are set up like paintings...that the set of an oil rig could be "beautiful" is amazing. The shots framing the face of Sarah Polley as she portrays her character are amazing. This is the movie the Pianist wishes it could be if it could ever grow up.
But fortunately that's not the case and Isabel does a far better job IMHO than Polanski....the stuff coming out of spain these days....or should I say this past decade and longer has been perhaps some of the best most interesting work I've seen.
