Review of The Secret Life of Bees (2008) by Phil P — 31 May 2009
A very touching film, that portrays well the racism experienced in 1964. Dakota Fanning plays Lilly perfectly as the neglected child and we are deeply absorbed with her melancholic confusion with life.
Great acting by Alicia Keys as the aggressive sister. It is a pity that May Boatwright suicided - as it caused great grief to the Boatwright - even though it is understandable why she did it. I actually thought that Lilly's mother, Deborah, did only returned to take her belongings.
But it was not until the end that we are told through Lilly's father, T. Ray, that Deborah really came back to take Lilly. Thank godness.
