Review of The Secret Life of Bees (2008) by Gareth M — 05 Jul 2013
The Secret Life of Bees is a moving and sentimental film with strong performances from it's cast including young Dakota Fanning. The film is about a 14 year old girl Lily (Fanning) who accidentally killed her mother when she was 4 years old and grows up with a father who resents her (Paul Bettany). Lily decides to escape with her housekeeper, Rosaline (Jennifer Hudson) and they move in with three sisters who have a business making honey (Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Sophie Okonedo).
This film is beautiful and uplifting and makes you believe that amongst the bad things there is goodness in the world. This film is both sad and uplifting and will make you shed a tear. It's such a wonderful story that tugs at the heartstrings. I don't get how this has a low rating on RT. I highly recommend this film!
