Review of The Secret Life of Bees (2008) by Allie M — 09 Aug 2009

I thought this was an excellent film that critics should have been kinder to. The story and themes were excellent. Dakota Fanning proves herself to be a credible dramatic actress with her role in the film. Paul Bettany plays his villain-like father role well. Queen Latifah gives her best performance since Chicago, Sophie Okonedo plays the mentally disturbed May with ease, Alicia Keys surprises with her serious acting kudos, and Jennifer Hudson gives a performance that should shut up her haters.

However, I do feel that something was missing. It felt a little bit too short. Not rushed. Just too short. Still, a great film that I would highly recommend.
