Review of The Searchers (1956) by Spencer R — 15 Nov 2008
Ethan Edwards might be the greatest character ever written for a movie, let alone a Western. Martin Scorsese said that he wanted to work with characters like Ethan and that is how he got Travis Bickle.
Look at their personalities and the elements of their journey and you will be surprised by how much you find in common between the two. Westerns like this are the reason why I love westerns so much. And it is movies like this that provide some very strong support for the statement that John Ford is the greatest film maker.
