Review of The Searchers (1956) by John A — 07 Jan 2009
Ford offers amazing depth in his camera. He shows most of the significant characters having some difficulty with their identities, feeling torn between two worlds. This creates complex dramatic combinations between them.
Ford's direction and pacing are well done, keeping the audience engaged while continually adding layers to the characters. Excellent use of frames within the frame, echoes across the film, and economical shots.
This is a must-see on the big screen if you get a chance.
