The Searchers was made in 1956 by John Ford. The genre of the searchers is westerns which is a typical type of movie in America. Also, this kind of movie is set at the time of the westward movement in the late 19th century in America. John Wayne who is main character of this film was the most famous actor in that time. This film counts among his major works. He acted as Ethan Edwards in this film. Ethan Edwards hates Indians because they ruined his life. In 1868, Ethan survived form the Civil war and returned home. Very soon, however, Comanche Indians steal cattle, kill his families and kidnap Debbie and Lucy. So, he decided to find them with Martin who is Debbie¡¯s brother. Before long, they found Lucy dead.

Ethan¡¯s purpose was so clear that it really draws me into the story. When Comanche Indians attack Ethan¡¯s house in the front part, the tension was very strong and real. It makes me feel nervous, too. Also, the background is very impressive. So, I couldn¡¯t take my eyes off the monitor during the entire movie. But, I felt something was missing because the third act of the movie finished too fast compared with the first and second acts. Moreover, I was confused by Debbie who was kidnapped by the Indians. Her behavior was somewhat vague so it makes me think carefully. I can¡¯t tell exactly what she did because I don¡¯t want to spoil the ending.

The Searchers changes my stereotype about old western film into good way. It contains some comic, action and romance. I want to recommend this movie to people who are unwilling to watch old movie in fear that it might be boring.
