Review of The Searchers (1956) by Matthew P — 07 Mar 2012
Although I was more compelled by Ford's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Searchers is his masterpiece. The inner pain of John Wayne's war-hardened Ethan Edwards is what ultimately drives this story, providing heartbreaking subtext to an already tragic goal: finding his kidnapped niece over the course of five years.
