Review of The Searchers (1956) by Seth H — 09 Aug 2012
I am a huge fan of Westerns but somehow had never had the opportunity or found the time to watch "The Searchers". When I saw that worldwide film critics voted it as one of the top ten movies of all time recently, I made it a point to finally check it out.
..and was gravely disappointed. I know my rating & opinion puts me in the vast minority, but I just found "The Searchers" to be an inconsistent, meandering mediocrity. The acting and writing are flawed (Natalie Wood is laughably bad & note the ridiculous last-minute change in the John Wayne character's prejudices); however, the landscapes and scenery are stunning so credit goes to John Ford on that particular front.
