"That'll be the day." My first John Wayne AND my first John Ford AND on a 4K restoration on the big screen...awesome. I can see why many consider it one of the greatest films ever made, and it's prolly one of the best in the genre.

Exceptionally dark and surprisingly humorous, this 1956 western also subtlety explored themes of racism and genocide. John Wayne may not have had a lot of range, but he knew what he was good at, and he exploited that talent, so I say bravo.

Ward Bond is perfect as the reverend, Captain Clayton. Also worth mentioning, Jeffrey Hunter and Ken Curtis have a one-on-one extended brawl that is hilarious and ridiculous (this fight also inspired the 9 minute fight scene from John Carpenter's They Live).

This was great fun, I can definitely recommend it.
