Review of The Sea Hawk (1940) by Allan C — 29 Jun 2014
Rousing swashbuckler has Errol Flynn as a British privateer fighting to project his homeland from European dictator bend on taking over all of Europe and England. No, it's not HItler he's fighting, but that is certainly the subtext of this pirate film.
Director Michael Curtiz, composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Flynn, Alan Hale and other regulars return, though minus Olivia de Havilland and Basil Rathbone who were offered but turned down their respective love interest and villain roles.
It's a fun bit of adventure on the high seas, though I did miss de Havilland. .
