(1955) The Sea Chase.
DRAMA/ WAR/ ROMANCE.
To see and listen to John Wayne as a German sea captain is just as credible as seeing Bruce Lee playing Christopher Columbus, Denzil Washington playing Ronald Reagon or Leo DiCaprio as Martin Luther King. Based on a novel written by Andrew Geer centering on German sea captain Karl Erich (John Wayne) an anti- Nazis sympathizer rebelling against Nazis orders, and then taking the liberty of sailing away from Australia's harbors while being pursued by a British naval ship. As a result the old, rusty 5,000 ton freighter boat named the Ergenstrasse makes a name for itself for making it to Spain before being captured. And of course theirs a Nazi sympathizer on board as the assistant sea captain whose one of the obstacles.
You know, this is one of few films where I seriously had to read the back of the commercial case it came with just to understand it's theme for it barely has any and it's quite bad. Lana Turner also stars as Wayne's eventual love interest. For devoted fans of John Wayne only.
1 star out of 4 stars.
