Review of The Science of Sleep (2006) by Amal H — 15 Sep 2010
This one turned out to be yet another dream movie..much like 81/2 or synecdoche-newyork in basic structure, flaunting surreal imagery, dream sequences interwoven cleverly to reality... but no one of this makes the movie tedious or any less entertaining...The storyline in short is about a man whose vivid dreams and imagination often interfere with his ability to interact with reality...The way the story progresses is in a very unpredictable and random, but on the whole its a very coherent work which focuses on a simple concept..
Although the movie is about the main character's disability to keep his dreams from reality, what I saw in the movie was the way dreams affects our understanding of a person....There are two ways we develop an understanding of another person..one way is by acquaintance in the real world..the second one is our introspection of our understanding of the same persons psyche through our dreams..and ultimately we don't get anyone completely without the dream part..
Very imaginative and inventive work..worth watching!
