Review of The School of Rock (2003) by Thomas P — 18 Feb 2015
Jack Black at his dynamite best along with these very talented kid actor performances.
Hysterically funny throughout.
Fun and wildly entertaining filmmaking.
My one prob -.
Needed to be tamped down to PG since its geared towards kids, and yet shows a kid being exposed to drugs as a rock-n-roll vice - a poorly handled situation.
That one unsafe feature bothered me ever since I first saw this in the theatre.
My internal parent had a fit.
Bang.
With that in mind, I do still highly recommend this movie bc they attempted to show the danger of drugs, despite the fumbled handling.
Then, after seeing this movie, I saw the documentary about kids in a real life school of rock- Rock School.
Blazing.
And later I saw the dvd extras about the kid performers - inspiring.
All of which revived for me the good things about this film.
One last thing -.
The brilliant riffing while the credits roll.
Stellar.
4 out of 5 wailing guitar solos.
