Review of The Scarlet Letter (1995) by Shira Q — 30 Jun 2008
An absolutely atrocious literary adaptation - shallow, self-serving, putridly over-acted, and completely unfaithful to the themes and spirit of the source material. I can understand finding the novel's pre-modern views on sexuality and gender roles unappealing, and it's fine to criticize it on those grounds.
What's not acceptable is to produce a revisionist butchery like this that turns it into the first Harlequin romance.
