Review of The Scarlet Letter (1995) by William H — 07 Apr 2012
Pretty much a Hollywood happy, dumb-downed. feminist version of the novel. This movie takes great liberties with the book and tries to make the minister out to be a John Smith, involving an unnecessary subplot with Indians.
The directing was bad and the plot predictable, long, and corny. The sex scene was not very good at all, very bad! However, the acting wasn't that bad and it did feel like the time period. Some good romantic lines and parts and I particularly liked Oldman as Dimmesdale.
The ending was completely changed from the book and the villain's death was inconsequential.
