Review of The Savages (2007) by Barnaby G — 08 Sep 2008
I thought this would be funnier than it was, but my expectations didn't ruin what is a very well acted, well written and well directed film. It's great to find a film that has an intelligent script which gives the actors a great opportunity to display their craft.
Hoffman, as always, is excellent but is matched by Linney, who shows how effective women's roles can be when given the material to work with. A character driven story with some excellent moments. The end was a bit of a let down as it didn't seem to tie everything up - but still, a very interesting and intelligent movie.
