What gives this movie charm is that it actually captures the all too true notion that all people are dorks. However, it can be rather dull and "I'm just trying to recapture that Napoleon Dynamite" magic.
The shirtless family is a riot, and the fat guy is reminiscent of someone that we all know. Actually, most of the characters are.
