Review of The Sapphires (2012) by Toucan C — 27 Sep 2012
A feel good movie (like Blues Brothers) that is perfectly free of cliche. With the Vietnam War in the background it adds to the drama of real life issues also surrounding the four indigenous women. The intercut footage was also done extremely well, with real life war and 'Nam footage with some great takes by Screen Australia.
Musically wise it was a spectacle - music I'd never heard in an interesting and non-Glee type of way. Chris O'Dowd is also as hilarious as usual in his character. This is a movie that will help Australia create more international recognition with our films.
