Review of The Sapphires (2012) by Christopher N — 01 Jul 2013
OK, so we didn't go see WorldWarZ or Lone Ranger 1 or Monster U. - we went down to our irreplaceable local indie theater, The Magic Lantern and saw The Sapphires. what a great movie! It's like The Commitments reincarnated as aborigine girls in Australia/Viet Nam in 1968.
Same sockittome soul music, same family quarrels, maybe a little less irony and a whole lot of heart. If you saw and loved The Commitments, you owe to herself to catch The Sapphires. Spokanites, the ML is holding it over for another week to accommodate the crowds.
Go! Everybody else who loves a feelgood story with terrific Stax/Volt music, watch for it to to come yo your town, If you have to wait, it'll probably still be great on DVD, but the sound track is 60% of the fun.
Maybe 55%.
