Review of The Sapphires (2012) by Jon D — 10 Dec 2013
'The Sapphires' is very entertaining and often times downright hilarious. There are no real surprises here, but the film moves along at a good pace and it's hard not to enjoy the music. When 'The Sapphires' doesn't get caught-up in trying to make a statement on race and equality, it plays as an engaging and entertaining musical-comedy.
The cast is top-notch, and when was the last time somebody saw a film about the Vietnam War that actually produced several laughs (my guess would be "Good Morning, Vietnam"). "The Sapphires" is 90 minutes well spent.
