Review of The Sandlot (1993) by Scott A — 11 May 2013
Just one of my favorite childhood films and it still is. Reminds me of getting all the guys together to play baseball games all summer long. And all the adventures you get into as kids. I remember my brothers and I didn't have a 'Beast' in our youth, but an angry Rooster if memory serves. But going to the pool, having that way too old goddess we all wanted to be with, sleepovers...etc etc.
This movie captures it all. Especially in the end when everyone begins to move away, as that is how life was for most of us.
I think the cast of kids is amazing. Most get their moments to shine, minus the tall guy or the twins, but Hamm and Squints are two fantastic characters. I was always bummed we never got a sequel of all these kids when they were still young: I know a few came back for the third film.
I also love when the film turns into a caper film, when they keep trying to get the ball back.
This is such a perfect film, even if you aren't a huge baseball fan. And it has a ton of great quotable lines as well. YOU'RE KILLING ME SMALLS! See this!
