Review of The Sand Pebbles (1966) by John D — 24 Jun 2008
The saving grace of this movie is the ending. Otherwise, it blows pretty hard. You can read the synopsis if you want to know what it's about. As far as the movie itself, it's slow and boring and Steve McQueen is much cooler playing quiet, savvy cops (Bullitt) or quiet, savvy criminals (The Getaway) than he is playing a quiet, decidedly stupid sailor.
Candice Bergen is in this movie as a youngster which is kind of amusing and she's hot to boot. Again, the ending is decent, but other than that, yeah, this movie sucks. Sorry Steve McQueen movie.
