Review of The Samaritan (2012) by Derrick D — 17 May 2012
I have worked with the filmmaker and he's a really great guy, so I watched it with that in the back of my mind. It takes a little while to get fully up to speed, but it's a solid neo-noir effort.
There is definitely one glaring plot flaw which was hard to overlook, which is too bad because there are a number of things that I really liked about it. Well shot. Luke Kirby's performance as the guy who tries everything under the sun to get Samuel L.
Jackson's character to do his bidding is OUTSTANDING. I've never seen nor heard of Ruth Negga before, but she pulls off the female lead like a veteran. I'd like to be glowing, but I can't.
I don't want to be overly critical because it doesn't deserve that. See it, if for no better reason than there aren't a lot of Canadian Indie thrillers out there, and if it does well, it just might help more get made.
