Review of The Salton Sea (2002) by Adam K — 24 Sep 2007
Sometimes, they say you need to allow a film the chance to develop to fully get out if it what is intended. in the case of the salton sea, the saying could not be more true. what starts out by looking like a mediocre drug film, becomes a dark tale of vengeance and personal redemption.
val kilmer is truly an underrated actor. he has a very unique and chill presence to him, whether he is playing an intelligence agent, a cop, or jim morrison. the cinematography is beautiful. its interesting to know that this was d.
J. caruso's first film (he would eventually helm disturbia). one would think he would progress into something like this instead of degress into disturbia, a film of less quality in terms of filmmaking.
the last thirty minutes of this work are excellent. thrilling, surprising and enjoyable. if one can slightly ignore vincent d'onofrio's irritating role, this can be a great film, which it truly is.
