Review of The Saddest Music in the World (2003) by Andrew U — 02 Mar 2008
Proof that Guy Maddin is, without a doubt, the most stylistically innovative director working today. If he had been around in 1920s his name would rank with the greats like Eisenstein, Lang, and Murnau.
Today, however, his style is seen as quirky, or even a sort of affectation. But he's making films that no one else is, and they're great fun to watch.
