Review of The Running Man (1987) by Rob L — 15 Jul 2012
Preposterous although it should be credited with some foresight given that the obsession with reality TV could not have been as compulsive at the time it was made - at times, it even veers towards social commentary.
But with its extended â~Legs and Coâ(TM) sequence mid film, all to a soundtrack that is so so Eighties, the only surprise is that the protagonists arenâ(TM)t equipped shiny suits, sleeves rolled up to the arm. Put this together with the sub-Bob Monkhouse one liners of Arnie and you have a movie very much of its time â" and yet one that fulfils that Hollywood shtick â" a denouement that features twenty minutes of â~running aboutâ(TM). Ludicrous and not unenjoyably so.
