Review of The Running Man (1987) by Jay L — 23 Jun 2013
"IT'S SHOWTIME!!".
A late 80's science fiction actioner that could have been much worse, The Running Man is a fairly violent, fairly entertaining and very cheesy endeavor from beginning to end. I enjoyed it, the film was limited in many ways from the technology of it's time, but undoubtedly pulls it off quite well. Well worth a peek, if not for the cheesy dialogue itself, The Running Man does deliver some thrills and a pretty good amount of action for the duration. Director Paul Michael Glaser (The Cutting Edge, He also starred in The original TV series, Statsky And Hutch). The Running Man features an abundance of cheesy violence, endless 80's one-liners, a bunch of over the top special effects and a decent amount of entertainment that mostly has appealed to hardcore science fiction and action junkies. I would be interested in seeing a modern day remake of this one. To sum it all up the film was a bit too cheesy, but held my attention for the duration.
Arnold Swartzenegger is the running man and gives an entirely cheesy and over the top performance throughout, as well as his astonishingly laughable dialogue and one-liners. The Running Man features supporting performances from Maria Alonzo and Richard Dawsen. It was mainly a satirical bash at American entertainment at the time, and in that respect it did well.
