Review of The Running Man (1987) by Steve W — 11 Jul 2015
The Running Man is one of my favourite guilty pleasures. With an 80?s charm like no other, a biting satire of game shows, and fierce brutal combat with armed villains, The Running Man is a classic action movie / dystopian future film.
Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a cop who defies an order to shoot at civilians, and is arrested and then blamed for the massacre. He is later picked up and blackmailed to appear on a savage game show in which convicts must evade armed gladiators, or else his resistance pals will participate instead.
Along with the game show aspect, we get to see some insight on the villain?s side as well as the police state of the government. A very nice mix of action and satire that is a lot of fun, and still good with repeat viewings.
