Review of The Rundown (2003) by Adam F — 25 Dec 2012
"The Rundown" isn't bad, with some very cool fighting scenes and some likable villains and characters but ultimately it's kind of forgettable. Dwayne Johnson and Seann William Scott do a good job going through the film, even if they have to do some embarrassing comedy bits (like fend off some horny monkeys while hanging upside down in the jungle) and their opponents, headed by Christopher Walken are entertaining too.
The film tries to do a few scenes that are standard for treasuring hunting films, like the tombs filled with death traps and the escape from crumbling structure (right after getting the coveted treasure) and those don't really work but when there any kind of hand to hand combat or gun play (and there's quite a few) the director really gets creative and it's tons of fun to see what new action sequence is set up next.
The comedy is hit-or-miss but the action is always great and it's definitely a lot better than you might expect so you'll have some good fun with this one, even if the plot isn't anything to write home about.
