Review of The Runaways (2010) by Polly P — 07 Oct 2010
Rock biopic of seventies girl group The Runaways, based on the memoirs of singer Cherie Currie, and the band's rise and fall. Perhaps focuses too much on Cherie and Joan Jett (to the near exclusion of the other band members) but it's an engaging tale nonetheless and the music is fab.
Dakota Fanning (as Currie), still only 16, shows great maturity and Kristen Bell (as Jett) - so bland in the Twilight movies - gives a nonchalant performance that impresses. Top marks too for Michael Shannon whose portrayal of manager Kim Fowley nearly steals the show.
