Review of The Runaways (2010) by Ashley T — 16 Dec 2010
While I don't really know much about or care for the Runaways music, their story is pretty fascinating. Coming of age, rise and fall of fame, all the classic biopic themes are here. The acting is good all around, especially Dakota Fanning in one of her first "adult" roles and Michael Shannon as the girls' super-creepy slimeball of a manager.
The production designers nailed the 70s look and feel, from the garish fashion to the feathered hair to the drug-induced hallucinations. Things tie themselves up a bit too neatly at the end, but the movie probably could have gone on forever; it had to end somewhere.
