Review of The Runaways (2010) by Stephen G — 20 Feb 2011
Standard biopic, but it's not really about The Runaways. It's basically the Cherie Currie story, with a bit of Joan Jett's story thrown in. It's not a bad film - the music is actually fun (Stewart and Fanning do their own singing) and Michael Shannon, who plays Kim Fowley, is outstanding.
I'm old enough to remember the hype around this band. They certainly never lived up to it, though Joan certainly has (Lita, too, but you won't hear much from or about her in this film). If you remember the band or are a fan, don't go into this movie expecting to learn much more than you already know.
