Review of The Runaways (2010) by Marie-Anne W — 04 Sep 2011
This is a biopic movie on the famous female rock group called the Runaways. The film stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie. The story focus is mainly on these two in the group.
We watch them as troubled teenagers form the band under the odd yet crazy manager Kim Fowley. I knew of some of the music of this band but never really knew the background story. This was a interesting movie.
Shows how even all female bands suffer from the long touring, drugs and constant infighting due to jealously. I always knew what became of Joan Jett after the demise of this band. She continued to make some classic rock.
I was more interested in the life for lead singer Cherie Currie after the break up. Fanning and Stewart are excellent in their roles. But I must admit that actor Michael Shannon as KIm Fowley was the best performance in this film.
If you enjoy true life based film and want to listen to some great rock tunes then check this out.
