Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Ray K — 20 Mar 2012
An entertaining comedy drama which brings together three legendary figures: Hunter S Thompson, Johnny Depp and Bruce Robinson, director of the sublime Withnail and I. It's not a bad little film, but it should have been better.
Although it has plenty to amuse, where it falls short is in its attempt to appeal to a broad audience; it has an impatience and brevity that ensures the characters and other subjects have little chance to show their depth.
Worth watching if one withholds great expectations.
