Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Ryan G — 23 Apr 2012
A great ensemble cast from Depp to Eckhart and a typically brilliant supporting role from Giovanni Ribisi deliver with strong performances, but are all let down by a script that lacks a depth and quality to match the actors.
Amber Heard is particularly brilliant, in what could be looked upon as a breakout role in years to come. If anything, this does get me curious to hire the other great Hunter S Thompson film adaptation, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
