Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Bradley H — 16 Jul 2012
Despite some well-placed profundities from Hunter S. Thompson, and a terrific display of character acting from Depp, Rispoli and Ribisi, this film never finds coherence. The plot is so simplistic and underwhelming it is almost not there, and if that is because, as I suspect, the source material is more introspective than driven by external events, then the film takes an entirely unclear approach.
