Review of The Ruling Class (1972) by Lauren H — 13 Jul 2007
One of O'Toole's greatest performances. A brilliantly, savagely funny attack on the corruption of Christianity by contemporary society, and the insane world of the ruling classes of Britain, and indeed any nation.
Hilarious, vicious, and terrifying. Particularly chilling is the twist that occurs halfway through the film and O'Toole's sudden about face in probably one of the best performed monologues since Hamlet's soliloquy.
I absolutely adore this movie.
