Review of The Rules of Attraction (2002) by Rajneel S — 17 May 2008
Interesting, but ineffective and uneven adaptation of Brett Easton Ellis's novel feels more obsessed with being shocking and edgy (which it is neither) than heart-felt or genuine. All the camera tricks don't quite add up, the characters don't seem as real as we know they can be and the feeling we're left with is more "why did they bother?".
James Van Der Beek is pretty good though and there's probably a great soundtrack floating around.
