Review of The Ruins (2008) by Laurel N — 11 Aug 2010
Extremely surprised that I enjoyed this film, but it's alot like Cabin Fever, in the way that there is always this impending doom and the feeling that no one can possibly survive this. Four college students are vacationing in Mexico when they hear about a trip to some Mayan ruins that are not on a map.
Of course the Americans want to go explore these ancient pieces of culture and find out that some things should be left alone. The whole film is perfectly paced with average acting and medicore direction, but the only reason it works is that it's not a bad idea.
If only more recent horror films could go for this theory, keep it simple.
