Review of The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) by David P — 26 Feb 2011
The most famous Wes Anderson film, but I'd never got around to seeing it. As entertainingly stylized and quirkful as you'd expect. I'd say that I still preferred Bottle Rocket and The Life Aquatic, but only by a hair.
Hackman's character is great, and I quite liked both Bill Murray and Gwyneth Paltrow's total deadpan... emptiness. The Criterion edition has a really interesting set of interviews with the principals, and a short doc showing Anderson in action - an interesting view into the creative process.
